It is a group of women from all walks of life who have joined together for fellowship and who through constructive action, help build, server, improve and enjoy the community in which they live. Membership should mean challenge to participants in club activities, an opportunity for broadening social contacts and one's horizon, and for dedicated service to one's community. Club membership can develop a wide variety of interests, build lasting friendships and bring to light one's hidden talents.
Any woman who is interested in service to community through leadership development and/or who seeks to improve herself through study is eligible. Members of this club are per capita dues-paying members of the State Federation and of the GFWC.
It is the largest organization of volunteer clubwomen in Illinois. The Illinois Federation of Woman's Clubs (IFWC) was organized in 1894. It has about 37,000 members in approximately 680 clubs throughout the state.
Membership is open to women of all ages. It offers activities to interest everyone. Its parent organization, the General Federation of Woman's Clubs (GFWC) is the largest volunteer organization of women in the world. Membership in IFWC automatically makes one a member of GFWC and GFWC's Great Lakes Conference which is made up of federations in Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Ohio, and Wisconsin.
